catch up!

2013 has been blowing by, i can't believe it's almost february! lots of exciting projects are in motion:

Magical Beautiful tracked 5 new songs in december at the shape shoppe, we're polishing up a few more songs and laying those down soon.

we began work on the new Roommate record in early jan at Soma Electronic Music Studios, my first time behind the board at John McEntire's very fine studio. 

Frank Rosaly's got another record in the can and off to mastering, a combination of his Cicada Music and Scrappers projects, out on Delmark Records later this year.

Mixing has begun on tracks recorded in Haiti by Travis Yarak of Messiah Brown Productions, some really fun beats and tracks to work on. 

work is also revving up on post production work for the beautiful feature film The Poisoner, the second feature film by Chris Hefner, with soundtrack by Daniel Knox.

i've just approved the final master of the new mucca pazza record "safety fifth," which i recorded (and played on) at our space. mixing was done at the shape shoppe. mastering by Carl Saff. now it's off to the cd plant and i'll be getting the lacquer cut by chicago mastering service in the next week! the record is due out june 12th on Electric Cowbell Records. back from a successful herculaneum tour

just got back from a great tour out east with herculaneum. It was definitely our best tour so far with great crowds everywhere and a lot of fun. We shared the stage with a great bunch of musicians, from Tomas Fujiwara's trio, Brian Chase, the Four Bags, Father Figures, Buffalo Stance and many many more. A highlight was the band being pictured in the new york times! check out the review as well as a few more below. We are contemplating a live recording release this summer with another round of shows. stay tuned!

tracking/mixing update

we're hard at work polishing up the mixes for the first full-length by the wonderful jon drake & the shakes. by tuesday we will have this great record one step closer to your ears.

also, magical beautiful has just finished up tracking basics for two new songs. with these we have 4 in the can and hope to have another record done in the next few months. 

magical beautiful midwest mini tour

we are heading out this week to play some shows around the midwest, starting in saint louis on wednesday at off broadway. we hit champaign-urbana on thursday at mike 'n molly's, then settle in to the shape shoppe to do some recording and finish it up at subterranean in chicago. come out if you can!

well, it's been a busy month

it's been a while, but there has been a lot going on!

i finished mixing the debut LP from the great Lawrence Peters Outfit a couple weeks ago. the record is at the pressing plant and will be back in time for the official release party at the hideout on saturday july 30th. 

work has begun on the next record by the wonderful nick mazzarella trio. it was recorded live at the hungry brain by todd carter after a week of touring and it sounds hot! be sure to check out the trio's first record "aviary," which is available here: aviary on itunes 

i've also begun work on mixing the new full length record by the local band jon drake & the shakes. it's going to be a very powerful record by this wonderful 8 piece band!
