Hi I’m Nick. I work in the studio and on stage with artists looking to present the best possible version of their art to the world.
After moving to Chicago in the late 90’s to study Jazz at DePaul University, I spent years playing on the road and in the studio with artists all over the map, including Wilco, TV on the Radio, Broken Social Scene, The Walkmen, Cursive, Mucca Pazza, Head of Femur, Calexico/Iron & Wine, Afghan Whigs, Poi Dog Pondering, Amanda Palmer, Spoon, Guster, Jarvis Cocker, One Direction, Quin Kirchner, Herculaneum, Frank Rosaly, Circuit Des Yeux, Ty Segal, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Mono, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, and many others, while also writing/performing with my own trio with Keefe Jackson and Anton Hatwich.
After the experience of years playing sessions and shows, I decided to dive into audio engineering to try to make the process and results of recording and performing better for the musicians around me. Working on hundreds of albums over the years, my goal has always been to erase the technical side of recording for the artist, to be a sympathetic and trusted ear for their ideas, and having fun doing it!
I’m available to work with you in the studio or on location anywhere, as well as remotely over the internet.
